left side pain

anyone have pain under their left ribs?  Very  low left sided pain right under the lowest rib?  UC related or not?

Yes, I have. Are you in a flare? It can be related to UC.

That's where my guts are, and that's my 'problem' area, so yes. It gets really bad during a flare - to the point where I can't stand up straight during the day, and I can't lay completely flat out in any position on my bed or the couch.

Right now, I even have it, and I would consider myself at near remission. I have minor blips, and I can tell when something's wrong because I feel it there. I think I'm more sensitive to food moving through that area because I know what the inside can look like at it's worst..

Funny though, because my last c-scope showed only 35-45 cm affected from my rectum. And that was only 1 year ago, and I have been feeling fine since until 2 weeks ago. I hope it is not spreading........

Even proctitics can cause your colon to spasm further up and cause pain...I know that from experience... :)

For me pain in that area means inflammation in the descending colon-- too high for retention enemas to reach. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

You would be amazed how far I can get the retention enemas in, lol. I may look like an acrobat but I get it to the tranverse portion. At least the less viscous ones.

I think I will try the enemas while laying inverted tonight. I have decided to do an all liquid diet for a couple of days to see if that helps. thanks

Cortenemas can improve inflammation higher up by systemic effect-- if one stays on them for longer than 3 weeks-- in case of severe inflammation, for example. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I am talking about getting the liquid up that far, lol. I have never had the cort up much further than the sigmoid just because they are so thick, but the others I can manipulate up through descending colon. I am talking about practically standing on the head with back up against a wall and feet up in the air. When you are desparate you do all sorts of things. :O I often wish I had an inversion table to make things alot easier.

Just curious, but how do you know how far up it's getting? I don't think I feel anything, but maybe I'm wrong. You also probably have a better grasp of anatomy than I do, which I imagine helps!

Huh. I guess my colon isn't so sensitive as yours is. I can't feel a thing, unless I forget to squeeze the air out of the bottle first. Then I just have the massive urge to fart!

I actually don't get the insistence that the med go higher because (now this is just my opinion) I would want the extreme concentration of dosage to be in the lower part.....which, by the way, is the most difficult to treat, the first to become inflamed, and the last to heal.

Oral topicals are used to deal with the rest of the colon, and if it's not enough, they can be increased.
