Low white blood cell count

I was diagnosed with UC and IBS approximately 5 years ago. I have been in and out of remission during this time. I am on Asacol 400 mg x2 tabs twice a day. My white blood cell count has always been chronically low but now is extremely low, 1.7. I had a phone message from my doctor saying that it could be the Ascol that is causing the problem. I am extremely nervous to go off of Asacol. Is there anyone else with the same problem and what did you do?

Not heard of that with asacol. Usually symptom of the immune blockers.

My wbc was 1.6 on Aug 5th and the doctor took me off the 6MP pronto. He had me on too high of a dose, 100 mgm. I had a repeat WBC drawn on Friday and am calling the doctor tomorrow to find out the results. When not on the 6MP or lower dosage, my WBC is much better. You should have other blood work done to rule out other problems. Did the doctor mention that to you? I have been on Colazal for years and it never lowers the white count, nor did prednisone. What was the result of your differential? Monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes?
