I had my gastro appointment 3 weeks ago, the consultant told me that he is going to give the Imuran another month to kick in and if it doesn't then we will be discussing surgery.
At the time I was taking Movicol for faecal impaction and I was having diarrhoea up to 8 times a day. He said the constant diarrhoea is not a symptom of Proctitis and thinks that because I had no blood or diarrhoea that I'm not flared. He reckons it was the Movicol causing it and told me to come off it and see what happens. Since coming off it I'm going anything up to 5 times a day, fluctuating between constipation and diarrhoea. When I have the constipation I often get urgency and need to go several times a day but often with no result. I have been getting a lot of pain - sharp pain on my right side (where the faecal impaction was/is) and on my left. And also the usual crampy uncomfortable pain. I think there was a small amount of blood one time and I've been getting a tiny bit of mucous but nothing major. I am nauseous and/or sick most of the day and night which is just horrid, but he doesn't seem to think its the Imuran causing it so far after starting to take it.
I'm putting all my hopes on this surgery in the hope that it will be the end to it all. I'm the opposite to most here in that I'm worried that my consultant will turn round and tell me that I'll just have to make do with things as they are. He, like a lot of consultants, doesn't have very good bedside manner and doesn't seem to appreciate how it makes me feel.
I just wondered your views...!
