I hope this is helpful regarding the somewhat frequent discussions regarding rectal sparing.  It may be spared visually, but usually not on a microscopic level....this in itself is very interesting.

Did you click on the link anyway?  some of it is explained.

It means the rectum seems it isn't involved, but it actually is but not in the normal pattern of UC.

Thanks - maybe I will see what it takes to join when I have time later.  That is why you have not gotten replies probably - many do not want to "join"!  Believe me I know my rectum is involved this morning LOL!  I am hurting all around my pelvic area.  Tried doing the Cortifoam a couple of nights because of my symptoms.  Once again I believe the Cortifoam is helping the UC but I am soooo sore down there - just can't tolerate that. Sore as in like someone has kicked me!!

wow Linda...not good you're in such discomfort and can't find any relief at all from any meds. What about something like proctocedyl suppositories?

I can relate to the pain only during flares or when the hemmies have reared, but the proctocedyl does help.

One thing I forgot to add is that possibly Canesten cream could help externally? It's easy to end up with a bit of a yeast infection...I had that once with hemmies and a fissure and flaring..it was awful. I tried all the other stuff and finally thought to try the Canesten cream....it worked welll and at least I was able to get some relief.

Maybe worth a try...
