New Bizarre symptom.. could it be from Pred??

Hi everyone...

   I have a new weird thing happening to me lately... Whenever I stand up, I get this feeling like someone is choking me around my neck and I can feel my heartbeating in my ears pretty hard for about 30 seconds to a minute, also my hearing is very muffled until it all goes away.... Nothing I do during that time makes it better, and I'm worried that something is going on with my blood pressure or heart... I'm also wondering if it could be something to do with being on Pred for almost 3 months now at an average dose of about 40mgs.....

  Never had this before and it's too late tonight to call a dr... lol...   Just thought I'd see if anyone else has had this happen?

I would also guess it's probably pred related, but maybe call your doc in the morning just to be sure.  I get wierd things from pred too - I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest it's beating so hard and fast, and I am short of breath when getting out of a chair or going up steps, etc.  These side effects occur for me not only at 40 mg but at lower doses too.  Kinda freaks ya out!  I hope you feel better soon!

Happens to me all the time and I'm not even on pred. I have naturally low blood pressure and when you stand abruptly, your blood pressure can drop. I get that thump, whoosh, thump, whoosh sound in my ears and the sounds around me go in and out. I also get a bit light headed. But if you don't have low blood pressure in the first place, it's best to get into contact with the doctor about it.

I would get similar weird feelings on prednisone.

     Prednisone can increase your blood pressure.  Buy a blood pressure monitor at your local drug store and keep tabs on it.  Last year my blood pressure went up to 216/104 while on the prednisone.  I was hospitalized and I think they were more concerned about bringing my blood pressure down than they were the UC.

Definitely sounds like your blood pressure is dropping. How bad are your symptoms right now? Are you getting enough to eat?
When you go see your doctor, request they let you sit for a few minutes before taking your blood pressure (it's not really accurate if they take it right after you sit down). After they take your resting blood pressure, ask that they have you stand up quickly and take your blood pressure again.

This reminds me of a funny (to me!) story. One time, when I had a tummy bug in college, my mom took me to the ER because I'd passed out a few times. My blood pressure kept dropping because I was dehydrated. They had me do the sitting/standing BP readings, and I told them I felt like I'd throw up if they made me stand up. They had me do it anyway, and gave me the tiny kidney shaped pan to throw up in (those things are pointless, IMO). Sure enough, I threw up, but NONE of it hit the pan. I got such bad tunnel vision I couldn't see a thing, and most of the vomit landed on the nurse's shoes. I felt vindicated, because she kept asking me if I could be pregnant...

my heart was beating just like you mentioned, but I also had tightening and chest pain.

They were worried I was getting too many blood clots.They found one, from Thrombosis and put me on blood thinners. I am okay from that now. I only had it for a few weeks, but definitely talk to your Dr.
