As everyone knows, with UC comes a TON of blood work.  I've been getting a told of bills from Quest Diagnostics recently stating that I a ton of money beccause my insurance (aetna) isnt picking the claim up because they are considering the tests experimential????  Why would I ever be getting these tests done if I didnt have this terrible disease???!??!?!!?  I spoke to the financial specialist at my doctors clinic and she just faxed over 28 pages of proof that the tests are a medical necesity.

Insurance companies are crooks!!

I agree. My Rx insurance is administered by an outfit called Medco that dumped on me royally a few months back. They sent me a form letter at end of May, stating that they were "updating their system" soon & giving an 800 phone no. one could call with any questions. So-- I called & asked & was told: Oh, everything looks fine." Then the next time I went to my local pharma for a Colazal refill their "updated system" would not accept my ID. I had to pay the entire bill with plastic because I needed the med!!!!!! It took 2 months & certification from my gastro to get my Rx coverage reinstated, and they still have not refunded the $630 I had to put on my credit card. Total swine! I know that Quest can also be a pain; some yrs my insurer sends notice that they are suspending their contract with Quest due to overcharges-- then I have to get my labs done elsewhere. That's why we need single payer/universal coverage health insurance for all in the U.S. Privatization = exploitation -- in too many cases. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Yep, they will bend over backwards to try not to pay a claim.
Labs are tricky, too, because some insurance companies require you use certain labs, and if your doctor doesn't know or doesn't check, and uses another lab, you are stuck with the bill. Usually the docs learn, but you don't want to be one they learned on. Watch it!

If you have a problem that you can't get resolved, contact the state insurance commissioner and/or the state attorney general. That's what they are there for.
