Flu Jab & Azathioprine?

I've been advised to have a flu jab this week but the Azathioprine leaflet says you shouldn't have immunisations whilst taking it? Has anyone else had flu jab whilst on it and was everything ok?

Yes, I have had the flu jab for several years now whilst on azathioprine. The live virus vaccines are the ones that are precluded. The flu jab is a killed virus vaccine.

Yes, it's ok to have the flu shot while being on an immune suppressor. I get the flu shot every year since getting the flu one year and thought I was dying. However, do NOT get the live virus one - I am not even sure they still offer that (do they?).

Ah, that's ok then. No i don't think flu vaccine is live, infact the only live one i knew about here was polio and i'm not even sure they give that live on a spoon like they used to anymore.

they're doing a live virus nasal mist for the H1N1 vaccine- as well as the shot. But, the nasal mist is more readily available & is actually the first of the vaccines to have been shipped.

MMR and yellow fever vaccine are live virus vaccines.

Flumist both regular and H1N1 strains (If its getting squirted in your nose its live virus, in arm not), MMR, yellow fever, rotavirus, smallpox, chickenpox both versions all live. Polio is not live in the US anymore.

I've never heard of the mists before, I'm in the UK though? Will swine flu vaccine be live then when we finally get it?

I wouldn't say straight out "No"- it depends. I'm in the US, & they have started shipping & administering the nasal mist H1N1 vaccine prior to the shot. I work in the healthcare field, & our site is alloted XXX amount of H1N1 vaccinations, for employees- I recently found out these are going to be the nasal mist ones! So.... not sure what I'll do. I'm hoping they send out some actual shots, but who knows. I have a physical with my PCP in 2 weeks, & will see if I can get the shot from him at that time. I qualify, having a compromised immune system, so it should be ok. Bottom line is if they offer you the nasal mist, decline!

I was responding to flufumps question about getting Flumist in the UK. This vaccine is not licensed in the UK so no one in the UK will get a live virus influenza vaccine.
