Anyone elses doctor prescribe them ultram (tramadol) for pain with ulcerative colitis?  Just curious cause my doc gave me that for pain and bentyl for the spasms.  I take two pretty much every day.   Tylenol does nothing for me.  I was just curious cause I have not read anywhere that anyone has taken this pain meds for this disease.

My son was rx'd Ultram for headaches and was told it was pretty IBD friendly. He took it once for a bad headache and it didn't help too much for the headache, but it didn't cause any intestinal problems either.

That's good to know that it can be taken for IBD pain. Let us know how it works for you.

so far it works really well. it doesnt make me to tired or feel funny.  the only thing is is that it gives me night sweats in my sleep where i wake up freezing but sweaty i hate it my doc said it could also be from the lialda or bentyl since they can both dehydrate you.  does anyone else experience these night sweats with uc and meds?

Wow! I'd never heard of this until - my PCP just prescribed tramadol for me yesterday - Ryzolt, which is an extended-release form of tramadol. My doc prescribed it for arthritis pain.
Have you taken it? I'm eager to have something that will address my pain, but I'm a little nervous about side effects: one thing I read said drowsiness is possible, and I'm taking a road trip this weekend, driving 250 miles each way alone... so I'm thinking of starting it Monday.

flaring can cause night sweats. Are you sure your sweats are medcation-related?

i'm not sure if they are i just dont know where they are coming from i can't stand it though.  i read the side effects and it says that increased dehydration is possible.  but it is miserable and i can't sleep like that.  so have you had these night sweats with uc as well? i have them every night!

I've been given Ultram for arthritis pain but unfortunately it has a small amount of codeine in it and I'm highly allergic to codeine in any form. But I've read on here that some people take Tylonel #3 and/or other forms of codeine related pain meds. I've been given Darvacet in the past for my Uc pain. But like any narcotic pain meds and Uc, please be cautious because it can cause a constipating affect on some. That doesn't sound bad when you think about it but trust me, if you've never had constipation you don't want it! Personally I think constipation is a lot more painful then having Uc related D.

I'd been taking Percocet for the arthitis pain, never more than one a day because they make me feel a bit loopy - so I've been getting through most of the day and taking one in late afternoon maybe 5 times a week - I know the Perc. can be constipating, but so far my trusty jug of Metamucil has kept me in fine form.
Some codeine in the Ultram, eh? - Hmmm, I think I was right, I'll wait until after my weekend trip to try any! (Being an extended release formula, once I take it, there I am for 24 hours....)

Nicole - Yes, night sweats can be part of UC. I haven't have them all the time, but last winter I had horrible ones until I started to get a flare under control. I agree, I hated it!

Songlady, one of my friends was taking Ultram after back surgery and she would cut the pill in half. She was able to cope pretty well on the half dosage, didn't make her sleepy or dopey. Not sure you if you can do that with a time released one though.

Red - Yeah, hmm, they may not be breakable.
I'll fill the prescription after my trip and only try if I really need it!
