My current script for Asacol is out of refills, and I'm thinking about asking my doc to replace it with Lialda. So my question is basically this: is the convenience of once a day worth the added cost?

Also, I tend to forget my mid day dose until dinner, which is one of the main reasons I'm considering the one a day.

I LOVE being on Apriso, as it's also a once a day med. I was having trouble remembering my noon dose (even with an alarm on my cell phone, as I was often away from my desk when it went off), but after switching, I felt so much "freer" from UC, if that makes any sense at all. I think that Lialda has a program to reimburse you for part of your copay and I know Apriso does (as I use it and therefore don't pay ANYTHING for my pills). That said, however, it would be worth the extra cost for the Apriso if I had to pay for it.

I always freaked out if I missed a dose or was in a store or something and couldn't get it.

Dunno about your question, but thanks for reminding me to take my mid day dose of Asacol...lol

I switched from Asacol to Lialda to try it out. I experienced severe headaches and painful cramping from it that I didn't experience on Asacol. Price-wise, Lialda has a program where you can limit your co-pay to $25 out of pocket for a whole year. You get a card that you activate and give to your pharmacist when you fill the order. For me, this made the price difference negligible between the two.
In the end, I went back to Asacol to avoid the side-effects... Good luck with the switch!
