I'm not quite sure where I would fit into this survey so I just put that I can sleep no matter what. I've had Uc for a while and when I was first diagnosed, I would wake up occasionally to go to the bathroom. But now that I've had it a while, even while flaring, it doesn't wake me up. It sort of goes dormant when I sleep but when I get up and have been up for at least a half hour, then I have to go.

Hey Red_34! My body works the exact same way...I don't get it either...even when I am having a horrible flare up I never have to go to the bathroom while sleeping, I wish it could be like that all of the time!

When I was flaring I had to get up several times in the night. Especially when I was having the night sweats, I would wake up soaken wet every hour or so and then I'd always have to go to the toilet too.
Now I just get up once or twice to pee, just like always. I almost NEVER sleep right through, never have.

I wake up a time or two to pee. I've had to get up because of bowels maybe once or twice in my life - less than my husband who does not have UC.
However, when my son was flaring, he had to poop about three times each night.

I answered I sleep through the night unless I am in a flare. In a flare, I have profuse night sweats that wake me up b/c I am drenched!

I don't wake because I need to go to the bathroom. I just can't go to sleep. And when I do, I wake every hour or two because of joint pain.

when i have a flare up then i am up 3-4 times during the night. when it used to be really bad i might be up twice as often. I remember being in hospital once and i heard another patient telling the doctor that when having a bad flare she would be wakened by abdominal cramps/pain. the doctor seemed incredulous that the pain would wake her. I also found that i was woken by pain, what do other people experience?

Depending on haw severe my flare is with my crohn's colitis (CD affecting the colon...I hope you don't mind that I participate in your surveys even though I have CD and not UC?) I will either sleep all through the night for the most part when I'm flaring mild-moderate and when severe I get very little sleep through the night due to constant "activity", which is how I've managed to pull of being able to 30+ times a day in a 24 hour period.
For me it just depends on how bad my flare is.

Thanks for all the responses and ofcourse everyone is encouraged to take part. As for me, I usually sleep through the night but sometimes have to get up once to use the bathroom. For a few days after my colonoscopy it was out of control though, like 4 or 5 times a night and it was urgent.
