Hey, you went for the Paragard consultation right? How was that?

I did, I'm so sorry I forgot you had asked me to update you on that!! The Paragard does sound like a pretty good idea b/c it doesn't have hormones and is very effective at preventing pregnancy. My OB said that it can/most likely will cause you to cramp and bleed heavier during your period. I don't have that problem now so I'm not sure if I want to risk it. But both DH and I hate condoms so I'm not sure what to do. We still might want another baby or else I would have DH get a vasectomy.
The more popular option these days is the Mirena IUD. My OB said that it has very low dose of hormones and they are directly in the uterus. Most women's periods become lighter with the Mirena. BUT I read a lot of reviews from women online and most of them didn't like it, had problems and had it removed b/c of reactions to the hormones. Most of the women with the Paragard were pleased with it.
If I want to go forward with it I have to call the makers of Paragard and order it and they will send it to my OB. They will check to see if my insurance covers it, I'm afraid to find out how much it will cost. But I'm sure it would be more cost effective than having to pay for pills every month. Do you think you will look into it?

I'm thinking about
it. The Depo may not be hurting me, but with the changes in my BMs, I just don't feel like pushing my luck, you know? Plus I only ever get one zit at a time, and that, rarely. But lately, ugh! The only reason I haven't yet is because I'm scared it'll hurt to get it (which I suppose I could deal with), but also I've never even had a pap or anything. But I guess it wouldn't hurt to go ask about
it.

No problem Scrap Girl, I would love to hear from everyone that has/had an IUD. Did it cause you any problems whatsoever? How long did you have it?

I had mine about
three years. I had it taken out because we knew we were done having children and I was going to have that Essure procedure done. Anways, found out right before the procedure that the actual piece that is implanted contains nickel - which I just happen to be allergic to. So I wasn't able to have that done. Will probably get another Mirena. After being on birth control for so long I wanted to see how I would respond off of it - not good! Heavy periods are back. As far as side effects go, I had spotting for about
3-4 months - nothing heavy. Never had any other side effects. On Mirena my periods never stopped but they were very light, think pantyliner. Personally, I wouldn't want to get on any type of birth control that caused heavier periods. But that's just me :)

I don't want hormones anymore. The onset of my UC kind of coincided with puberty and so far two types of birth control have disagreed with me.
Also I just found out my insurance doesn't cover the Paragard, and our new insurance won't cover ANY birth control. Arg! AMK did you find out how much the Paragard is? Do I even want to know? lol
Stupid insurance! First I had to wait to go into the doctor for my psycho UC symptoms when they first started, so the new insurance we were getting wouldn't refuse me for a pre-existing condition or something and now this. I hope health-care reform fixes this crap.
