Well... hmm... if you were flaring, pooing might not be too bad, it'd just kinda... pour right out, right? And you'd have cramps anyways, so it might just blend together lol

I've mentioned this before but my first child was a vaginal delivery and I tore big-time! Talk about pain. It would take me several minutes to walk across a small room. Had to have the tear "recut" and sewn up again four months later. With #2 my doctor (a different one) he gave me the option of a c-section - because he said if I tore again it might not ever heal properly and I could have a whole other set of problems. So I had a c-section and while the actual delivery wasn't as exciting, it went great and I had only minimal pain afterwards - nothing compared to that tear. Number 3 was also a c-section. I wasn't diagnosed with UC until after my first two were born. But the idea of "pushing" while flaring doesn't appeal to me either. Also, going to the bathroom with even a few stitches is pretty painful, too. Good luck

I had vaginal deliveries with my 2. Let me tell you, that first #2 after a vaginal delivery is scary and difficult. It feels like you're pushing another baby out. Ok, did I scare you? Didn't mean to! Maybe with a C section it will be better. My SIL just had a C section 3 weeks ago and she said she wasn't in that much pain. They give you good pain meds. Best of luck!

I had the same fears. I had a scheduled c-section because my son was breech and I was sure it would be terrible to go to the bathroom after. Even though I was sick before the c-section and after, I made it through the first week or so without problems. I didn't have to go much. You only get a liquid diet for the day of and after usually anyway. They will try to give you stool softener. I just said I wouldn't need it.
I healed really quickly and easily from my c-section. I didn't take pain medicine after day 2 in the hospital (and my doctor didn't prescribe me any to take home).

Mine is about three inches long. It's hardly visible now, three years later. It's very low - I could wear a string bikini if I wanted to (but I won't :P ) My mom also had c-sections "way back when" and her incision was huge. My skin is above the area is a little loose, but I think that's from having three kids. I've been told that only plastic surgery can get rid of it and I believe it. It's not a huge thing to me. Yes, stiches can poo from straining. That's actually what happened to me when I tore with number 1. I was having a BM and I was straining they ripped and every time I tried to "push" I was bleeding big-time. Not fun. I was in the bathroom for hours and I literally thought I was going to have to have my husband call an ambulance and I was going to have to go to the hospital to finish this BM. What a nightmare! Found out my OB/GYN at the time should have given me a stool softener - I actually needed one back then. I don't mean to scare you because I'm sure my experience is rare - at least I hope it is.

Kazy, can you tolerate fiber at all? I know the psyllium husk powder (Metamucil) helps me so much - the GI recommended it to me more than 20 years ago exactly so that I wouldn't strain. It really worked for me.
I had 2 c-sections, 3 years apart. I was dx about 3 years before my first son was born. I was one of those lucky ones whose UC went into absolute remission with pregnancy (and stayed good through breastfeeding) so I can't really speak to the flaring-at-childbirth issue.
But - I can tell you that my scar is little, maybe 3 inches, and hardly noticeable. I told them in the hospital I couldn't take ibuprofen, so they gave me percocet the first few days, and after that, tylenol was plenty good enough.
