Cider seems to be drink of choice with a lot of people with 'digestive' problems. I worked in England for a few years in the 80's and developed a taste for it. The Brits don't call it 'hard' cider as ALL their cider has about 6-8% alcohol. The non-alcoholic cider as we drink in N. America, well they just call that 'apple-juice', which when you think about it is exactly all it is.
I've been told that if you are going to mix anything with rye whiskey, (flat) ginger-ale is kinder to the stomach than most other fizzy pops.
You have to realize that any alcohol is ultimately an irritant to your colon, so I suppose moderation is the key. To most folk of anglo-saxon/celtic ethnicity, their tolerance is generally much higher than others, so that has to be taken into account when determining just what your 'moderation' threshold will be.
