OT - strep throat

Just a quickie question for all you knowledgable peoples out there...can you still get strep throat when you don't have tonsils?

I just got back from the docs with my daughter and she has strep throat.  I don't have my tonsils but do I still have to be worried?  I never really thought about it in the past when my son had strep but this just popped in my head.  I've been washing my hands more frequently and Lysoling the house like mad.

Yup, you sure can! It just lowers the risk. I had my tonsils taken out when I was 5, because I was on penicillin constantly. I've only had strep once since then, and that's been 26 years!

Ok thanks :) I guess I will just continue to take extra precaution so I don't get it. I had my tonsils out at the age of 30 and boy was that harsh!

Just make sure you tell her not to lick surfaces and you'll be fine XD I have tonsils and I've only had it once... well, only once that I know of.

I think so...since it effects tissues in the throat rather than the tonsil, persay.

Just keep your food stuff separated and no swapping spit.

Honestly I had strep pretty much every year in grade school, I think I'm immune to most strains at this point.

Don't share towels...and after your daughter gets better, replace her toothbrush.
