I know you can answer my questions better than my doctors....fishoil and antibiotics??

Well, my new specialist who is 150 miles away said, "any questions, call me".  YUP!

Ok, so yesterday I called and of course you get a nurse - no problem!  Today she called back with my answer - "Dr. McDermott said to consult your primary care doctor".  Very funny.  I did that - NP said "call your gastro doc".  LOL

The questions were....

How much fish oil should I take to help the inflammation of my UC.  He had recommended it but never told me how much. I found Fisol is not bothering me in low doses and wanted to try increasing if that would be better.

Second question was which antibiotic is best for a jaw infection - best for my colon and my infection. 

So, I came here to get the right answers as I am laughing.  My husband gets the same run around sometimes at his doctors.  GEEZ!

Fish oil supplements: If I didn't have high good cholesterol, then I'd take the amount that it says to take on the bottle. I'm not taking very many fish oil supplements lately. I have high good cholesterol, which has bumped up my total cholesterol level to over 200. Some doctors look at the bad cholesterol figures only. Others say the total is also important.

Jaw infection: If the antibiotic going to be applied locally, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just up my intake of probiotics for awhile. If you need to take the antibiotic orally, then ask the doctor who is going to prescribe the antibiotic to you. He/she should know which ones have less affect on the colon or should look it up if he/she doesn't know. There is a trade off though. The ones that aren't as harmful for the colon usually don't work as well. That's why I ended up having to take antibiotics three times for a bladder infection, each time taking a stronger antibiotic. I ended up getting rid of the bladder infection but getting another colitis flare. Sometimes it's a trade off.
