OT - Need prayer for Son in South Korea

Hey everyone..

   My son is in the Army and stationed in South Korea at a base near Seoul... I just got a call from my son's Father, saying he was injured while on training in South Korea and shattered the two bones in one of his forearms.. I guess it was a compound fracture so they are taking care for infection...  I don't know which arm, or what hospital he's in, or even where he is since he was out in the field when this happened.. .. I don't really know anything other than he has had surgery and has two plates in his arm to put the bones back together..  I don't know when I'll hear anything else..   I'm just sitting here hoping he's ok and trying not to stress too much.....

I just have to say that modern technology is AWWWWEEEESSSSOOOOMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I just had a Skype video conversation with my son~! He is in a military hospital in Yongsan, Korea and they have internet access there, so he Skyped me and I could see him and talk with him! Blew me away!!! He had surgery on his left arm and it was a compound fracture.. ewww... He has 2 plates and 16 screws.. It was amazing because he was showing me his arm hanging in a traction thing and he showed me his thumb he cut and his lips are swollen because he did a face plant as he fell out of a military vehicle when some wood gave way that he was standing on.. He said his pain level is about a 5 so it's tolerable. He get's 30 days of convelescent leave so he get's to come back to the states for a month to recover... Gosh I feel so much better now that I got to talk with him.. now I can sleep knowing he's ok and being well taken care of... amazing how far we've come technology wise...

Korean nurses are the BEST. Seriously--caring and highly competent. He'll be fine in now time.

And yes, Skype is amazing.

Susie, I'm so sorry that your son got hurt but I'm really happy that you were able to talk to him and ease your mind. I think that no matter where they are or how old they get that they will always still be our babies.

     I'll keep him in my prayers while receiving my first Remi infusion this morning.

Yes, technology is most awesome... what a relief you were able to talk with your son to get immediate information first-hand and to SEE how he's doing.

Wow, he'll be setting off airport alarms..lol!
I do hope he heals smoothly. I'll be assuming he'll need therapy to get full use of his arm/hand....seems he'll be sidelined for a while.

Keep us posted as to his progress.

I too am active duty and was stationed in South Korea from '99-00. They have good medical infrastructure there and I'm sure he'll be taken care of!! Tell him to take it easy in Itaewon next time...........

He IM'd me today and said he is doing ok, but sore all over... He thinks he get's out of the hospital sometime today but is not sure when he gets to come back here to recooperate. I doubt he will get to come home right away, with his arm so badly broken that it needed surgery, how could he possibly travel and deal with luggage and all that? Well, I'm just glad he's ok and that I can communicate with him. His Sgt was kind enough to go to his room and bring him back his computer so that's how I got to skype him last night... What a relief!! He is definately in good hands :)
