UC and Fever

I've not had a fever but I've also not had UC that long...

Could it be non-uc related? Do you have any other symptoms, like cold or flu?

I get fever with every flare; about 102. It occurs after a painful bm. When in a really severe flare, as I am now, I have difficulty keeping my temperature stable--I get cold easy.

It is true that you could have a virus on top of the UC; that's happened to me too. It's almost impossible to tell what's causing what.

My doctor said if you're taking high doses of steroids you have to be careful because they may suppress signs of infection. If the fever persists or gets much worse get it checked out. Did you take acetaminophen?

What are your other symptoms?

Once when I was in a really bad flare I ran a fever all weekend.  It was around 100 and I felt really bad!  I was also having 10-20 restroom runs that weekend...not fun!  I would call your GI but as others have stated since this is flu season you might have the flu or a virus...

I don't mean to indicate a 102 fever is normal for most. I get hit hard in a flare and when just blood in coming out I will hit 102 (max), and that’s very uncomfortable. Taking acetaminophen helps. If you're at 103 still you may need attention and I would suspect a virus unless you have severe pain when you press on your gut; that might be an infection in your colon which is very serious.

I too had cold sweats all night; had to change clothes two times. It seems we're sufferring similar symptoms. Don't be surprised if it comes back but this time take acetominaphen as soon as you feel your chills; it keeps your fever at bay.
