Have any smokers noticed that the bleeding continued?

Hello,

Ever since I started smoking again the bleeding absolutely stopped. I am not crazy about smoking again but it seems to have put a complete halt to that aspect of U.C.  I am hoping that it's my strict diet and supplements that have done this, or maybe the prednisone that I've been off of for almost a month. So I'd like to put this to rest. Is there anyone who has colitis and smokes and still bleeds?  Or is there anyone who started smoking again for an extended period of time without any reduction in the symptoms of bleeding? I guess if I see that there were people who were still bleeding even though they were smoking, it will put  my belief to rest that it's the cigarettes that are stopping it. It would suck to think that that is the reason why I'm doing well. Not great, but pretty decent.

I had tried smoking again a while back for several months. It did not help me at all with reducing symptoms.

Did you bleed though? I have not had that issue in a long time but I still get diahhrea on and off and there seems no rhyme or reason to it. I eat a very healthy diet that does not include any foods that would promote D. I know it comes with the territory with having colititis but I'm wondering why the heck I'm not bleeding since it seems to me that most people who have this disease are often bleeding.

Bleeding was my very first symptom to disappear when I started Asacol...it went away even before I started taking Rowasa a week later. But, I never had a ton of bleeding, even though I was having 15-20 urgent episodes of diarrhea a day. I've not had any bleeding at all since then.

Yes, smoking does help some people. Especially if they were diagnosed with UC after they stopped smoking. Sounds like you're probably one of those people.

That's one thing I've been wondering for a long time. Before I was diagnosed I would rarely bleed, so I was surprised when I was diagnosed with Pancolitis. Pancolitis, from what I've read on the internet, is a pretty severe diagnoses for colitis. But I have never been so bad where I was going more than ten times a day, but I have lost over ten pounds and gerally don't feel great. It's liveable, but everyday is a challenge, especially being a Grade 8 teacher, because you just can't leave the classroom when you feel like you have to go. Luckily for me, I've been able to manage. I guess I thought that because I don't bleed that I must be doing great, but Im seeing that it's still possible to have a severe case and not bleed much. What a crazy illogical unpredictable lousy disease this is. Oh well, it could be worse I guess...although I wouldn't wish it anyone.

I've never had much bleeding when in a flare -- very slight. And the smoking didn't affect that. I got diagnosed with UC a few months after I had quit smoking. So I thought I would try smoking again to see whether it would help reduce the symptoms of a severe flare.

I am a uc victim and a smoker. tobacco relaxes your entire body and allows stool to pass otherwise inflamed areas of your g i tract. smoking is a temporary relief though, the benefits do not outweigh the risks. notice the almost immediate feeling for the need to use the rr after only a few puffs? relaxation is key, just find another way to do it.

this is so weird ... I just started smoking again out of desperation to see if it would mitigate my symptoms and it has. I have pancolitis and I would be in the bathroom about 20+ per day. Once I started it dropped me down to going 5 times a day with no blood, etc. In no way am I condoning such an action, but I am at my last wits right now. I am eventually going to go for the surgery, but at this juncture in my life I can't so this, unfortunately, is my last option. I have never felt this good in my life. Trading one evil for another.

Trying some nicotine gum or something might be a better alternative. Or a patch maybe. Or I know a place where you can order nice little bundles of tobacco to roll your own cigs, and I think it's organic. Probably less crap added in.
