OT snow in the uk

Hi as you may know uk has been hit by snow just wondered how many like me from uk have it bad i'm from kent and we have a lot kids are happy as i think every school is shut hubby not as he could not get his van out of our road to get to work and i'm not as i now have to walk to work about 2 miles before i do a 12 hr night shift and then walk home have been told that anyone living 3miles and under can walk to work (i work in the health sector) we are ment to be getting more snow later. May look nice but we can't cope i think gritters are classed as rare as they have been nowhere neer to where i live and all buses have stopped  what fun not always the wrong type of snow last time it was to fluffy this time i don't know just thought i would have a bit of a vent here sorry.LOL.

I feel for you truly. To have snow or weather that stops community functioning can be devastatingly distressing. I hope the storms predicted won't be as bad as they say.

I live in Sandhurst, Berkshire and we have had it bad here too!  My husband spent hours digging snow off the drive today as we haven't been able to get our cars moved! My children are both off school, they were only back for one day after the Christmas holiday and now they are off till Monday!! They are having a great time and my dogs are loving it too.  Hope it doesn't last too long - had to walk to the supermarket yesterday, which didn't have much on the shelves and then carry it all the way home. 

Well done for managing to get to work in this snow. You must find it tough working 12 hour shifts and having UC, I only work part-time and find that hard going when I am flaring!

I live in the Washington D.C. area and we had almost 2 feet of snow recently...not common to have that much snow around here, so everything came to a standstill for a couple of days. Expecting 2-3 inches of snow today.

I live in the north of Ireland and it has been terrible. It's been snowing for over two weeks.Because i live at the top of a hill, we are unable to get out as driving is too dangerous.I can't wait for it to clear so normal life can return.The kids are even fed up with it now as it is too cold to go outside.The temperature was -8 celcius this morning when i woke. I believe it may last for another few weeks too.

Gosh, the weather has been a nightmare all over the world! We even had snow in the California valley's about a month ago. That's a real rarity! Take care all you snowbound folks....thinking about you!

Yes, I can imagine how this must have shut the country down. I remember when I lived in London and we got about an inch of snow and what was normally a 40 minute cab ride home from work ended up taking 8 hours! I kid you not. Cars slipping and slidding everywhere. I felt terrible for the cabby who had to drive back after dropping me off. I think that was 2004 or 5? I hope things have improved? Enjoy it as much as you can, I know it's difficult. I don't know how many more Ottawa winters I can take. I was just not made for this...

We live in the Cincinnati and have had about 5 inches today.  My son has been in London the last couple weeks and is suppose to come home Saturday.  I am wondering if his flight will be delayed or not.  He said they were getting some snow on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Hopefully, he will be home this weekend and the snow will not make a delay at the airport.

I'm a born and raised Michiganian so I am bit used to the snow but it's been a bit crazy here too. The temps have been very frigid and we are getting around 3-6" of snow right now. The kids are hoping for a school day tomorrow.

Lambkins, I think that's crazy that they would make you walk into work in the cold and snow! So vent away and try to STAY WARM!

I do feel sorry for those of you overseas and here in the South who are not used to the harsh weather.  I live in Central NY state and we are used to lots of snow, cold, ice, etc.  Roads are treated with salt and plowed and rarely schools or business closed.  Everyone has snow tires or chains, etc.  We have had 30 inches of snow in January already and just North of here 53 inches.  Today was 25 F. and little snow.  Just a normal winter here pretty much.  I have a coat with hood, gloves, boots, lined jeans, etc. etc.  I also have cleats on my shoes for the ice and a spike on bottom  of my cane. 

Hope it warms up soon for all of us!!

Well i'm glad i don't live in California it''s bad enough here ,i didn't have to walk to work hubby got the car out and he picked me up this morning. Stay warm Elaine unlike you we don't have any thing to help us even the gritting lorries are few and far between and only do main roads
