My insurance pays 500 dollars a year for preventive care. Otherwise i haev a deductable of 500 dollars. Does anyone know if a colonoscopy is considered preventive for people with UC? I have a higher risk of cancer and such and wonder how they will calculate it out. I guess i can call next week if nobody knows.

Every insurance company is different and every policy is different, so you need to call. Sometimes if they give you hard time, if your doctor can put in the request for the procedure in more dire terms -
"cancer surveillance" or whatever - they might be persuaded to pay better.

I have Blue Care Network which is a HMO and my insurance covers it under preventive testing but Songlady is right. You need to call your insurance company and find out how they will cover it.

I know that with my insurance company a call beforehand is much better than dealing with it afterward. And people with UC have to have colonoscopies so my insurance co has no problem with this.
I would for sure call ahead though.
