Hi .. I was wondering if someone has been in the same position as me, and could give me some advice??.
I have UC (Lower bowel) Ive was in remission for almost a year, after some time in the hospital (steroid therapy). Me and my partner were hoping to try and have child no 2. All going well I was hoping to come of the meds, unfortunately in September of this year my symptoms started to return. Now of course the disease is doing its thing again!
I was and am currenlty on 40mg predinsoline (Started again in september), 125mg of azithiroprine and 400mg asacol (3 x day). I have just started taking pentasa to try and get it under control. I have a hospital appointment on the end of feb. - Not sure what to expect then!!

Now tonight we have had some news... my fiance is pregnant, 2-3 weeks to be exact... Im nervous that the drugs which ive been on will have some sort of impact on this??!.. unfortunately my GP hasn't a clue about this disease, its written all over his face every time i enter his surgery, which means ive got to wait until late feb to find anything out. Have anybody on here (Male) been able to have kids while on these drugs?.. my Doc /specialist told me that I wouldnt be able to have kids while on azithiroprine?!

Sorry if this isnt making much sense!..lol - feel free to ask any questions..

Hey there.  My wife and I were in a very similar situation.  I was on Asacol, 6MP and Predisone areound the time we conceived.  i was so worried throughout the pregnancy.  My GI doc was not too familiar with the affects on male sperm, but after doing some research, he said that there should be no negative affects.  Our OBGYN suggested that we get additional testing, see a genetic counselor, etc.  it was a nightmare for my wife and I, and I had the guiltiest feeling for the first few months... truely awful.  Luckily, all of the testing came back clear, and she gave birth to a very healty (and handsome smilewinkgrin ) baby boy in Sept. 2009.  Best of luck to you!  Im sure it will work out just fine.

on a similar note, we're deciding if we want to try for a 2nd child.  im still on the Prednisone, but not the asacol or 6MP.  i have not responded well to anything except Prednisone, and whenever i taper down to about 15-20MG, my symptoms seem to return.  My doc suggested Remicade as a treatment... i need to do a lot of research on Remicade/pregnancy now confused .

Have healthy 16 month old boy right now on about the same stuff.

Glad to hear it!.. Strange thing is my quack told me that we wouldnt be able to concieve as I was enuram (Azithiropine). But we have, and although im under pressure with this UC im happier today than I was yesterday!.. suppose positivity is good!!.. going in the right direction, thank you Dr-A!

I was on 100 mg of Azathioprine and I probably still had Pred in my system (it takes awhile after use to leave body) although I was not taking it at the time. My daughter is 2 yrs old now and the only thing I think about is if she'll have UC. Other than that she's as healthy as a horse. It wasn't planned by the way because I still think it's dangerous to be on drugs while trying to have a child. Don't worry about it.
