Urgency.. what causes it and how to counter it?

Hi all,

I was wondering.. what exactly causes the aweful urgency that UC is typical for? I'm asking because I'd have no problem living with an inflammed colon if I could get rid of the urgency!!

I mean.. people with normal occasional diarrhea don't poop in their pants.. Why does UC come with such explosive urgency and incontinence?

I've tried to increase my fiber intake, and although it makes me have semi-formed BMs, I still have to run to the bathroom when it comes...

What are your tricks to deal with the urgency?

FT...what meds are you on at this time?

Yes, consistency with the rectal meds is key for me and I strongly encourage others to use them.

One thing...the rectum is the first to flare, last to heal, so living with an inflamed colon without rectal involvement probably won't happen.

Yep, both ends approach....5ASA meds if you can take them.

Great you started the enemas....it can feel like prison, but remember how one stays out of prison...it's a learned process.

You should stay on them nightly until you feel normal...then do one more week nightly and then go to every second night.

Most of us prefer to stay on a maintenance dosage rather than the goal of totally getting off the meds.
