Hi. I was just prescribed Bentlyl to help with my urgency and stomach cramping. Does it work? Any bad side effects? I will try it tomorrow before I eat and just wanted to get any info. Thanks.

I take Bentyl also. It does help with the cramping, I've never had issues with urgency so I can't tell you about that.. The only side effect I think I've noticed is that it might make me a little tired, but I'll take that over cramping any day! Other than that, it's very well tolerated..

I've taken it for 21 years....works well for me.

I started with 10mg and graduated to 20mg.

What dosage are you on and what are directions per the doc's prescription?

You may feel a bit "mellow" and your vision may become a bit relaxed. It was more noticable for me when my eyesight started changing in my late 40s.

Let us know how you do on it.

I'm also on this and have no real issue with it. It does help me a lot when I cramp. I take either 10mg or 20mgs depending on how bad I am cramping. I, too, noticed that I tend to get a bit sleepy on it but if I am moving around I don't seem to notice it.

Thanks everybody. I just picked it up last night and was going to start it today. Maybe I should start it tomorrow when I have off work in case I have a problem with it. I will keep you posted.

What dosage did the doc prescribe?

I would suggest you try it tonight before bedtime...about an hour before.

The Bentyl seems to working great. I ate all day today and had no urgency problems.

Has anyone had the tablets AND the capsules? Do you feel that one works better than the other?

It is 10mg. I can one to two tablets before meals and at bedtime.

Bentyl is not working like I thought.  Guess it wasn't a magic pill.  Still having urgency issues and accidents.  Ran to the bathroom at the supermarket and there was only one. It was occupied and I just couldn't control it.  I hate this.

with rectal inflammation, you'll still have the urgency caused by that, but it'll lessen the spasming, etc and espeically the cramping.

It's not a magic bullet, for sure. It's just part of the regimen to help symptoms.

Tell me again why rectal meds aren't part of what you're using? even the suppositories will help.

I hate having UC as well. It's unfortunate you had an accident while waiting in line. It would have happened to me as well, when flaring the wait is seconds.
When not flaring, I have only about 5 minutes at most.

Hey Quincy- I am using the Rowas nightly.  Are there other rectal meds I could be using?  I am hoping the enemas will kick in.  I have been back on them for weeks though.

How much fish oil are you taking?

How much Vitmin C?

How many times a day are you going?

Are you able to also take fibre supplements?

I didn't realise you were also on the Rowasa....I should've reread your siggie. Oh, it's over the 10 line limit and the mods have requested you adjust it.

Have you improved at all since starting the Rowasa?
You could also use a suppository during the day, maybe proctocedyl which is for hemmies and has some hydrocortisone....but I have used it during the day and it's helped.

The only thing is that when we have to go, we have to go, and if there's any gas...whatever's in the rectum will just come out anyway.

I'm trying to do Kegel exercises (when I think of them)....I need to get more serious about it methinks.
