Has anyone done the prep while breastfeeding? 

They've given me MoviPrep and I'm worried about breastfeeding.  The thought of NOT breastfeeding for 48 hours (prep + procedure time etc) is stressing me out.  My baby has never gone that long without nursing although he has taken bottles periodically.  (He's only 11 weeks old.)

I've been preliminarily diagnosed with UC.  I've had symptoms for MONTHS.  My OB told me it was probably internal hemorroids, but never bothered to look.  Turns out its not, but I've been thinking that's what it was for 5 months and hoping it would just get better after the baby was born.

Any advice?

I was advised to stop breast feeding because of the sedatives etc ......... My baby was 11 weeks old and I decided that I would stop because I knew that I would be put on more drugs after.

The best thing to do is bottle feed for the next couple of days and pump of your milk and throw it away .... seems like such a waste...... the doctor will advise you on how long it will be for your body to be clear of the sedatives.

Sorry to hear you are going through this, its so hard when you have little ones..... My baby is now 16 months and I have been on everything ... im now on 6mp .... helping the bowel but the side effects are bad :( but I will do anything to get better xxxx

Thanks for the advice. Sorry to hear you were in a similar situation. As if being a new mom isn't hard enough?!

I know I'll have to stop nursing for the procedure and I guess for the prep, but I really do not want to stop completely. (I have frozen milk he'll get during that time.) My dr seems to think there are some meds that will work and are safe for breastfeeding. I sure hope so. I nursed my first child for a year and he is so healthy. This baby was born very small (2 lbs less then my first son!) and I think he needs all the help he can get. I don't think he was getting proper nourishment towards the end of my pregnancy due to the onset of this disease. He's doing great now...which is why I'm desperate to keep nursing. : (

Try not to worry to much . If you have milk in the freezer, u should do fine. Start pumping 2-3 x extra a day to store more milk before the procedure.

Make sure to check w/ ur doc to see how long before the seditives are out of your body. You are probally only looking at 2-3 days total including prep day i would think. In that time u can pump and dump (don't store the milk after the procedure).

There are indeed meds u can take that are considered safe while breast feeding, so u r covered there. Try not to worry to much over this, stress can deplete your milk supply.

You can also call LLL to see what they can tell you about the propafol that will be used during ur colonoscopy. Good luck!
