Bleeding before colonoscopy

Hi. I am due to go for my first colonoscopy in two days time. I have been taking prednisolone for 3 weeks (I have just been diagnosed) I have started bleeding after it had stopped for 2 weeks since taking the pred and I am worried that this is not good before the colonoscopy. Should I be concerned about this and try to contact the doctor tomorrow or just tell them on the mornng of the procedure? I am so dissapointed I'm bleeding again and the cramping is killing me. Thanks for your support. It's great the have people to be able to relate with.

I have had many colonoscopies while in a state of bleeding, so I'm not sure you should be excessively worried. But, having said that, it would be good to let the doc know what's going on, and I'd recommend calling rather than writing until that day, because sometimes on the day of the scoping the docs are busy and you don't get to talk with them all that much. (I don't know if you're going to a hospital, endoscopy center, etc - those are busy places!)

I agree that you should call your GI just to let them know about the bleeding. Bleeding can mean that your colon in a fragile state and the doc would want to know this. They will still probably do the scope but they will be a bit more gentle to avoid preforation. Bleeding is my primary symptom and I have always bled to a certain degree even while having scopes (and I've had plenty!).

     My doctor is SUPER cautious and will not even perform a colonoscopy while I am on prednisone.  However, in May of 08 I was hospitalized, bleeding AND on prednisone (40 mgm).  They had to perform a colonoscopy.  They used a pediatric scope for extra caution as to not perforate the ulcers.  Luckily, my ulcerations are confined to my rectum.  I say luckily with tongue in cheek because although I consider myself lucky that my UC has not spread upward in the last eleven years, proctitis is the most stubborn to treat AND extremely uncomfortable.  Not that pancolitis is not uncomfortable.  But, when flaring, I have very little, if at all, bowel control, bleeding and terrible pressure.

I've had both a colonoscopy and a flex sig while bleeding. It's fine.

Every scope I have had I was bleeding before, during and after! No problems from that - but if you are worried you should tell your doctor.
