VSL #3

Hello!

I am new to this board...I have UC since 2006. I was able to just stay on Salofalk (same as Asacol) until after the birth of my son when all hell broke loose..he is two years old and its been a constant battle. I have been on and off steriods and also just got off a 1.5 year round of humira.,..

right now I decided to try the natural route..got off the humira, changed the diet compeltely, doing the fish oils and just started taking vsl 3.

Just wondering how long the vsl usually takes to work and what others experiences with it...also if anyone has any comments about UC and big flares after pregnancy I would love to hear as well..will this ever just quiet down? its been TWO YEARS!! :(

Hi Krissy, I believe we've talked on another thread.
I first started with VSL#3 last spring..... it took about 2 weeks for me to see improvement. I was doing one packet a day.
But, then, having been on it, when I bumped up to the DS dosage (prescription) I saw a positive effect within 48 hours! Maybe that's because my body was already somewhat acclimated to it.

songlady..thanks so much..I live in Canada and I dont believe any VSL can be bought by prescription..that woul dbe very nice cause its very pricey!! Thursday will be two twos on vsl. and there is some improvement generally but still urgency in the first 2-3 hours of my day in the moring. otherwise I am ok.

I have no idea how long it took for one packet a day to work because I was still on prednisone and tapering. I started when I got below 10 mg which is my scary drop. I sailed through adding a suppository (canasa) and did fine. I'm not sure if vsl 3 helped but I'm still taking one packet a day, i feel great and I feel empowered, like you are doing something for yourself. I pay $65 a month at Costco for 30 packets and I feel that's a good deal.

I don't even know what a DIN number is but if your GP's willing to give you a script, that'd work. Good luck!

It took me about 8 months to get a precription to go through for VSL#3DS. Apparently when the docs open up the web page for the VSl options, the "DS" is not so easy to spot - and the other clue is that it comes in "20 sachets per box." Make sure the script says both those things - the DS and the "20 sachets" - or it'll go through as non-prescription (in my experience.)

Is it the Product Code you might need? My box says #00544-8209-41 but... this might be packaged for the US.....
