I found this explanation from a HealthyOntario.com article....
"This medication is a combination product that is used for the reduction of swelling, pain, and inflammation of <!a href="conditionssearch.aspx?search_field_name=hemorrhoids">hemorrhoids</A> and other rectal lesions. It is also used to treat proctitis, fissures, cryptitis, pain following rectal surgery, and rectal itching. "
here are the ingredients:
Ointment
hydrocortisone BP 5 mg (0.5%), framycetin sulfate BP 10 mg (equivalent to 7 mg of framycetin base-1%), cinchocaine HCl BP 5 mg (0.5%), esculin 10 mg (1%). Also contains 10% w/w anhydrous lanolin.
Suppositories
hydrocortisone BP 5 mg (0.5 %), framycetin sulfate BP 10 mg (equivalent to 7 mg of framycetin base-1%), cinchocaine HCl BP 5 mg (0.5%), esculin 10 mg (1%).
It's just another suggestion for those with combination issues as many of us have...where steroid or 5ASA may not be enough.
As well, one could use the combo of the ointment externally and into the anus as well as the suppositories.
The brand I've been given from the pharmacy is Sandoz Proctomyxin HC....the suppositories are superior to all I've used..don't know why exactly.
The more formed stool will also make more discomfort. If you're able to add fibre supplements to your intake of food as well as other fibres from maybe fruits or even increasing vitamin C will help soften the stool on its way out.
For me, if my external hemmi and fissure is inflamed, a flare is not far behind if I don't treat it....
Hope this helps....another other questions, ask away...
