Hey,

so I am just curious as to whether or not you all get migraines ? Because I never used to get them before I was diagnosed, & now I get them every 2 or 3 weeks .. I know that headaches can be a symptom that comes with colitis but I am confused as to whether my migraines are because of that or just because I'm a teenage girl (because they are common among us apparently :P) Anyways, for those of you who DO get migraines, what do you do to treat them the fastest ?! I'm not allowed to take advil, so I've just been taking tylenol extra strength fast action rapid release gel caps, but when I get a migraine and take those pills, I cannot feel a difference at all . ANY TIPS AND ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED PLEASE :) Take care everyone .

I got migraines before I had UC.  well, I don't get them that often but when I do I don't have time for OTC meds.  I have a prescription for Midrin...knocks them right out.  If you continue to have problems you might want to go to your doc and see about migraine meds.  My GI said that the Midrin was ok to take with UC.  Granted I don't have to take it too often...maybe once a month, but it's worth it.

I hope you can figure something out, migraines are miserable!

I had migraines before I got UC but not often. I take Fioricet, which is acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine.

It may be caused by something as simple as being dehydrated - the case for me. I have avoided them by staying well hydrated, especially before/during/after exercise. So water has been my remedy of choice.

I used to get migraines before Uc too and they became more frequent after. I find that as long as I can stop them before they become full blown that it helps tremendously. I take Tylonel arthritis everyday as it is, not just for my joint pain but for my headaches. I get A LOT of headaches from neck and med related issues. But when the TA doesn't work then I take Excederin Migraine. Normally we aren't supposed to take this but I figure a migraine is way worse then some intestinal bleeding. But I don't take it for very long, just enough to get over the migraine. And the water trick works well too. I find if I drink a lot of water, my headaches are less severe.

In retrospect I now see s/s leading up to my dx of UC. Migraines was one of them. I used to call it my Thursday sickness until I found out what it was. I was dx'd in 1999, have been in remission for 2 & 1/2 yrs...migraines are not regular for me anymore. I still get one once in awhile though...

I never got them before I has U.C. for awhile, now I get them especially when I coming off of the prednisone. I get Amerge from my doctor for them and it take care of it in about 1/2 hour.

I've never had a migraine, but my mom and sister both do, but neither of them have UC.
