Please help me!
A few months ago I began having cramps and bleeding. I let this go on for 2 weeks then saw my general doctor who refered me to a gastro. I saw the gastro who booked me in for a colonoscopy. The next day the bleeding and cramps got worse so I went to emergency. They kept me in hospital for 6 days on pred and mesalazine, low fibre diet and also did a Flex Sigmoidoscopy. The results of that were: mild inflammatory changes predominantly in the distal 10cm, but erythema and erosion up to 30cm, compatible with distal colitis and inflammatory cloitis. I was sent home and booked for a colonoscopy in 2 weeks time. I continued the pred and meza and the bleeding and cramps stoped. 2 days before the colonoscopy I started bleeding again then it stopped after the colonoscopy. I saw the gastro for a follow up the next week and he said that the colonoscopy was normal. He said that my problem was probably caused by a bacteria (none was found in my stool samples taken in hospital) which made it Infective Colitis. He said that it ment that it was a once off occurance rather that a cronic disorder and that I should finish the taper of pred quicker (5mg drop every 3 days) and discontinue use of meza. It has been 3 days now since I finished the Pred and yesterday I started feeling cramps then last night and this morning I have started bleeding again. My problem is that I don't understand why I am bleeding now. Could the gastro have been wrong in his diagnosis or is this something I should be expecting after stopping Pred? I lost weight in the hospital and have had trouble putting it back on and have a complete lack of appetite. I have read that a lack of appetite is a symptom of colitis. I feel really confused and do not know what to do. Should I see my general doctor or wait to see if the bleeding stops on it's own. Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated. Thankyou.
