My toddler's first colonoscopy.

  For the past five months my  2 year old has been having blood and mucus in his stool with a horrible smell that will fill my part of my house  and lately it has been getting worse. He was diagnoised with c-difficle infection in Nov and in Jan. and was treated with flagyl. And the blood would stop for a bit but not the mucus. Monday we had his first Colonoscopy because the bleeding and mucus was really bad last week and all the doctor could find was swollen lymphnodes (lymphoid hyperplasia)  in his colon and small intestines with alot of mucus. My question is did anyone ever hear of UC or maybr Chron's starting with this? Still waiting on labs and biopsy results and my nevers are getting the best of me . Can anyone please shed some light ow theirs stared or was their any false neg. lab results cause i heard it was only 89%accurate.

Wow, so young to be havng a colonoscopy. It scares me for my little guy who has increased risk of uc because if my own disease. Anyhow, the docs first findings after the colonoscopy do seem odd for uc/crohns. I know that after my first colonscopy there was little doubt about the diagnoses of uc even before the lab results were back, judging from the look of the inside of my bowel.

I am no doc but I wonder if he still has an c.diff infection. C.diff is one of those bacteria that have become resistant to many antibiotics and can be very difficult to get rid of conventionally. I guess the lab results will help answer that question. If it does turn out to be c.diff you could look into the info on fecal transplants for resistant cases of c.diff. A few docs are doing them here and there but the success rates seem to be high.

Are you seeing a Pediatric GI?
Do you have him on Probiotics? Florastor is really helpful against C-diff.
Has the bleeding stopped yet?
What did your Dr say as far as your plan to help him right now?

IBDISTHEPITS, Yes we are seeing a pediatric GI and he is cultrelle probiotic is Florastor over the counter or perscription? he is still bleeding but as of now i'm not sure if it is from the 12 biopsies they took on monday or his condition and his mucus is back very thick! As for now the doctor bascially said just watch and it should subside and if no we will start steroid treatment. so basically i dont know much more than before the colonoscopy :( Just my gut is telling me something isnt right.

killcolitis, we have been off of dairy for a while now but i have not yet taken fructose or gluten out of his diet .

Omg I'm so desperate for an answer. My son is 2 & has blood & sometimes what appears to be mucus .. We did numerous tests & all seems to be normal
But doctor now recommending both an endoscopy & colonoscopy. I'm so nervous about the procedure. Initially pediatrician said it was probably a milk allergy .. I first noticed blood in stool when he was 2 months old .. It seemed like it was coming & going then & at that time pediatrician said it was prob an anal
fissure .. Between 1 & 2 years of age .. It progressively got worse .. I thought it was from the foods he was eating .. Only bc he had a BM in the pediatricians office & he said it was tomato sauce .. As I write this I'm seriously second guessing this doctor! But nonetheless .. It's blood .. Stool was tested & came back negative for infection
& parasites & celiac disease. At any rate he's been milk & soy free for atleast 6 weeks now & yet the blood is still there .. Not as much but still there. Pediatric GI says colonoscopy is the only thing left .. Does anyone have any insight???? Please help. He's only 2 & I'm dreading this procedure. Plus no family history of any GI problems.

I felt so indetified with your post, I had to login just to try to contact you. It is as if you were writing for me, exactly the same story. My daughter is now 22 Months old and the doctor wants to maken endoscopy and colonoscopy next week. I am so nervous.
Please tell me how is your son going, did the doctors find anything until now? Was the colonoscopy and endoscopy of any help?

i'm sooo sorry..  i have a 2 y/o precious daughter.  i'm fighting a flare up now.  i would be so sad if i had to deal with her flare.
