Had first injections of Humira today

     Went to my GI's office and had my first four injections of Humira.  The nurse gave me the first one and I gave myself the final three.  Not bad at all!  The two injections in the legs were the most uncomfortable.  The two in the stomach I didn't even feel...God bless that belly fat!  LOL!

     My doctor spent a good deal of time with me discussing options if Humira fails like Remicade.  He doesn't sound too optimistic about the Humira as he did Remi which kinda bummed me out.  He did not poo poo it though.  He just wants me off this prednisone in the worse way.  Cimzia was mentioned, as was Cyclosporine but I said "no way, I am done with all this stuff if Humira fails.  I'll go for the surgery."

I just had my first injection last Wed. I only got one instead of four. I have arthritis too and i am mostly getting humira for that. Good luck to you

I am hoping the best for you! Happy it's over and hopefully you see a huge improvement quickly!!

Christine, all my fingers are crossed for you. I really hope it works. But if it doesn't, I completely agree with your decision-I wouldn't want to have to keep trying different meds-you need your life back!

Still, I am hoping and praying this gives you relief-at least long enough to get off of the pred and get in better health.

Keep us posted. Humira really did work well for me, so fingers crossed it does the same for you!

I had a bad reaction to Remicade, so we went to MTX. And thank God, it has worked. Been on it since June, and it took a while to kick in, but I've been feeling great for the last 5 months!

Glad to hear your injections went ok... I hope it helps you quickly without any side effects... You've been through a lot like me and really deserve a break!!! Let us know how you are feeling/doing soon!! (crossing fingers for you)

Guess it doesn't kick in as fast as the Remicade. I just went to the bathroom and have lots of mucus and blood.... . I had no reaction at all from the injections. The doctor didn't go over my prednisone taper yesterday but I am going to stay at 40 until I see SOME improvement.

Good luck Christine! Don't forget- it takes up to 6 weeks for the Humira to build up in your body, to see any effect. Something my GI neglected to mention to me! Or maybe he did, & I just wasn't paying full attention. Anyway, don't be discouraged- I was so "over it" after the first 2 months of using Humira with little to no change in my day to day symptoms. But--- March has been very good to me, I'm hoping the Humira either kicked in or something else is going right- for once! Maybe give yourself a timeline, if you get no relief within 4 months, call that surgeon. Also, re. your other post- I'd go with the surgeon your GI recommends- there's a reason he's recommending the guy! It's funny, my legs hurt way more than my abdomen also, when I do the injections. And I have like no belly fat, so I don't know what the reason is! I thought for sure I'd be giving myself the meds in my legs, but no way, always in the abdomen.
