Question about Prednisone

Its been awhile since I've last been on Prednisone. I am tapering down orginially from 40 mg and currently on 10mg. Next week, I will taper to 5mg and then I will be done. How long does the prednsione actually stay in the body? I am trying to lose weight but keep gaining because I cannot control my cravings or urges. I know I will  not see results once prednisone is out of me completely. So how long does it take? Thanks! :)

My moon face didn't go away for over a month and the weight really never came off and it had been over 3 months. Now I'm back on it so here we go again.

It can take a year for the adrenal glands to go back to normal after a long round of prednisone but the side effects and bodily changes can take a month to 6 months to leave.

It's really strange because everyone I know who has taken or is taking Prednisone has had weight gain. I am totally the opposite I lose my appetite and therefore lose weight strange?

Hopefully we can all get back to normal soon. I hate Prednisone but we can't live without it.

I hate prednisone too! I should've just dealt with my issues and not been put on it. It just made everything worse. I've been even more depressed because I put the weight I lost last year back on due to the prednisone. It just stinks! :(

if prednisone was the last medicine will make me alive ..I'LL NEVER TAKE IT ...

my normal weight should be 60-65. while talk prednisone i was 90, yes 90 kg .and it takes me 3 years to loss this weight. other side effects maybe in long term including arthritics ,depression and i have both now.i think prednisone have more side effects than treatment .
doctors just write it to patients without regard to any other solution . they just want to put you on remission canceling all the side effects

iluvsunflowers-Honestly, the reason my last flare was so bad was because I tried to find ways around the pred...tried entocort, etc. I'm now tapering as well (currently doing 20 mg and tapering by 5 mg/week) but was on 40 mg for nearly 3 weeks...my doc was NOT happy about that. And while I hate it, and am self concious as well, I realize that right now I can actually do things, unlike when I was flaring. Like, this weekend I went to a college reunion with my boyfriend, something I would have been terrified to do while flaring.

I also hated to take prednisone because of the weight gain. I found going lo carb, or at least trying not to eat flour or sugar, would help. But sometimes I would just give in to the cravings and eat donuts all day...

I have had no lasting effects from decades of using prednisone for flares, so it doesn't always do bad things, long term.
I know it is better for me to gain some weight temporarily than to suffer with a flare that won't quit without it.

change is possible- I weigh over 200 pounds ( I won't say exactly how much lol) and I am only 5'2" and a female. So obviously I want to make healthy changes for my overall health and to look good for myself. Its hard when being on prednisone. Its very discouraging. The last thing I want to do is make healthy meals and to try to eat healthy. Its a dangerous drug. I am going to make sure that I NEVER go on it again. I will have to be on my deathbed before I will take it again.

Right now I'm on 30 mg. tapering to 20 mg. on Wednesday. I've lost weight because my food is running through me to an extent. I do have some formed BMs and much lessening diarrhea.

I'm taking zyprexa to deal with the mood instability and anxiety surrounding me and my UC.

I expect the zyprexa will make me pile on weight like it did during my last flare. But I'm sure as the BMs normalize that I will also gain weight.

Don't believe I ever had pred weight gain.

     I'm like notsowell....always lose weight on prednisone.  It never did give me an appetite...guess I am just weird.

For me, when i started tapering, I STOPPED gaining. I didn't lose, but at least I stopped gaining. And my moon face started to deflate before I got all the way off-thankfully.

But I think you really do have to work at it. I gained 50lbs the last time I was on pred, 2 years ago, and didn't lose all of that before having to start on it again this time, but I also didn't work too hard at it. I started back on the workouts and eating right, but then I ended up getting into a flare (not because of the working out and eating right) and that fell by the wayside.

Some of the other side effects never seem to leave me. I have had menstrual issues ever since being on pred the first time that never resolved. And my belly fat has been more prominent ever since the first time. I don't think I ever fully got rid of everything from the last time. This time around, i am going to go to acupuncture and have her work on treatments for the adrenal glands-I had started that before this last flare, and my menstrual cycles started to regulate again, so I think that might really help. I hope, anyway. She tends to focus on the UC, but when we focused on the adrenal stuff, it seemed like it really made an impact.

I am trying this time as well, but it is hard. I really have times I can not control my cravings. I hate it-and I hate seeing the scale go up. I have been on the full 40mg for over 6 weeks now. I will see my GI on the 6th and the plan is that if my numbers are looking fine, I'll start tapering then. I wish I could start tomorrow!!!!
