The candida diet people agree with you to some extent that antibiotics wipe out the good gut flora allowing candida to overrun the gut. The diet is geared to restore the balance, replace the good guys and lower the candida flora.
I agree. Broad spectum antibiotics wipe out everything - the good gut flora along with the bad. When the good flora is gone, there's no longer any system of checks and balances to keep opportunistic flora from over growing. Queen is right, candida albicans - in and of itself - is a normal part of the body ecology. Problems occur when it gets out of balance and can cause a variety of symptoms throughout the body.
