OT scarlet fever

My youngest son has ? scarlet fever ? being felt unwell at the weekend no rash said he had tummy ache came home from school with rash all over chest/tummy took him to dr today and dr ? scarlet fever but not sure as has no temp and is eating drinking fine but told to keep eye on him and if no better in a few days bring him back may need antibiotics know it is very contagious if it is but dr said he is fine for school at moment just wondering where i would stand as am on 6mp although adults do not normally get it it is a strep infection any advice did not think to ask when i was there .

Yes, scarlet fever is a strep infection - the skin rash usually appears the first time a child gets strep; after that it will be strep throat. And Sherry is absolutely right, hand washing is the best preventive. Also teach him to cover his mouth and nose when he coughs or sneezes.

Yeah, it's tough because there are about a million viruses that young children get that cause similar rashes. Anything from roseola to scarlet fever. Most of them are totally benign, however. If he isn't running a fever I'd doubt it's strep.

Possibly quincy but he is up to date with all his jabs he is being very good
