I will be having my eye surgery next week. The pain meds they give after are percocets. I believe these are tylenol based. Is this ok to take without it affecting my UC?

They are oxycodone with acetaminophen.
Shouldn't be any problem for UC....enjoy the pain relief.

Yes, it's tylenol plus the heavy duty stuff. I've taken more than my share of this in my life; it was the one thing I could take after my C sections, and then this year, first one doc prescribed it for my arthritis pain, and then I was prescribed it again after my hip surgery. I have never had any problems at all. If anything, it can be constipating, so you might need to adjust your diet accordingly. I have been thrilled since the hip surgery - the percoset allowed me to eat more salads and fruit than I've eaten in years!

My doctor prescribed Hydrocodone/APAP 7.5 mg/500 mg tabs for pain. That is Tylenol based too. I take it very sparingly, as a matter of fact, my doctor actually hollered at me for NOT taking it in February when I was at the height of my flare and really having bad cramps. I took one pill once a week when I felt I couldn't stand the pain. I was blessed with a very high tolerance for pain. When I gave birth to my first daughter, the epidural only worked on one side, so it was like having natural childbirth. I didn't think the pain was all that bad. The pain with my UP that I suffered during and after my hospitalization in 08 was actually WORSE than giving birth.

I took the generic version for 3 months for severe sciatica. Don't plan on even being able to understand cartoons. Works well for very bad pain.I couldn't get to and use the toilet without blacking out before I started on them. They do constipate and cause side effects like morphine(skin itching for one).

I also didn't have a problem with percocet and my UC other than getting constipated.

My PCP said regarding my lower left UC pain, "It's your choice if you want to be in pain." and prescribed Oxycodone 5MG/APAP (acetaminophen) 325 MG (genaric Percoset). She said that Vicodin was probably not enough and Percoset was probably about
right.
I take anywhere from 3 or 4 per week to 1 o2 two per day depending on my level of pain, and have had no problems. My BM slowed a little, but for me, that’s not a bad thing.

I had no UC problems with it. But it made me extremely sleepy--I could barely do anything else!

When I had mono and had a constant migraine for 3 weeks my primary gave me percocet. It didn't do a darn thing for my headache or my UC. I had JUST gotten into remission and the percocet wasn't working so I tried oxycontin. That did it. Never bothered my tummy either.

JB -
Wow, what a helpful chart! Thanks. Nice to know what I've been taking (though the hip experience.)
(BTW, I could be that long-lost sister....
