Junior baby foods for bowel rest

     I know someone mentioned eating baby food to give the bowel a rest....maybe Susie?  Can't remember who, but I was wondering where to purchase some all natural Junior foods.  Thought I would pick some up over the weekend just to see if I can get some relief.  I overate yesterday and paid dearly for it today eyes .  This is just to get me over a hump...lol.  OY!

Real bowel rest comes from predigested drinks. I'm not sure baby food holds up to that standard? You might be able to find them at medical supply stores; you know the places you rent wheelchairs etc.

I'm not sure.... but I'd look for natural baby foods at a health food store. Or there might be one brand at the regular grocery....

When I was on bowel rest it was clear liquids, but that was some years ago.

Gerber baby foods just have the fruit, veggie, whatever blended with water; no preservatives, no salt, no nothing. I'm not sure if the ones with meat have any of that or not...I only bought one jar, and my kiddo wouldn't eat it. They are foul! Also, the stage I foods have more water (so are runnier and better for babies who are just learning to eat) than the stage II. And I know that Gerber is very picky about sourcing their produce...growers who contract with them have some very high quality standards to meet, and can't use some pesticides that "regular" growers can.

However, all that said, I agree with Sue that they probably don't give true bowel rest, since it's just pureed, and not predigested.

Yes, it was me that was on a baby food diet for a while. It was because of my right sided pain and I felt the baby food did wonders for me as far as pain. I was eating Gerber baby foods and actually thought they were ok... But I was getting the mixed veggies, or lasagna ones, etc. I wouldn't buy the plain meat ones because I think your body works harder to digest meats.. I liked the fruit ones and the strawberry banana was my FAVORITE... YUMMY!!!! I did try organic baby food, man, talk about GAG reflex!!!! It was the most horrid tasting stuff I've ever put in my mouth...I ended up feeding it to my dogs.. LOL... UGH....

I don't think baby food is really for bowel rest, but it sure is easier to go through irritated areas I believe... IMO...

     Suebear....I think I will try that predigested stuff.  I purchased one of my port a pots at a medical supply store a year or so ago but never noticed if they had those drinks.

     Susie...yes, I have an appointment with Dr. Robert Fry at Pa Hosp next Tuesday at 2 pm.  I picked up my medical records today at my GI's office.

Any low residue foods will be easier on you during a flare. A few people here have done babyfoods and it has worked well for them. During a flare I stay away from breads,dairy,vegetables, anything with seeds in it and fruit. If i'm resting my bowel i will try not to eat anything apart from maybe a couple of low fibre crackers to stave off the hunger. After a few days i will introduce strained soups, eggs, fish, white rice.

I lived on baby food for about a year. I stuck to the fruits and some of the vegetables. I used Stage 2. The ones I loved were pears, peaches, mixed fruit, kiwi and orange, corn casserole tastes just like a can of creamed corn without all the bits. Add a pinch of margarine to it and it was delicious.

It helped me alot. After about 1 year, I tried introducing other things but always keep a couple of jars in the pantry for days I feel terrible and can't eat. The fruits just seem to settle things down.

Daughter did baby foods too-esp. when she couldn't take the BRAT diet any more. Seemed to give her a rest, at least it didn't disrupt the fragile mucosal lining as it was healing. Oatmeal was a fav---the fruit mixes good too. It was a hit at the high school lunch table-
