Fistula surgery yesterday

I had a seton removed from my butt yesterday which was installed last December and had a fibrin plug inserted into the fistula instead. Hopefully I fall on the 2/3's group that has their fistula cured by this rather than the other 1/3. It will be nice to be able to wipe my butt again since the seton forced me to pat my butt and then I still needed to shower every time to clean up the mess that remained attached to the seton. Ugh! I won't go into the details of the lovely scent that continually emanated from the opening from which the seton exited.

Anyway, I just passed a stool and it looked like the best stool I have had in years. I'm guessing that the anesthesia and whatever else they injected me with yesterday increased the likelihood of constipation and that allowed my stool to bind tighter together. The flaxseed and psyllium seed powder that I take tend to keep things on the softer side.

good luck! I have an RV fistula that I've chosen to do nothing about- after 2 surgical consults, & being on both Remicade & Humira, it's still alive & well. Both the surgeons I met with regarding surgical closure were pretty disheartening- the success rate on closing these things is so unbelievably low! I hope it holds together for you & stays in place- also, enjoy the lingering constipation!

Thanks for the good wishes unfortunately I was back in for another surgery today because an abscess began to form again. The doctor adjusted the end of the fibrin plug and enlarged the external hole to better support drainage. I tried to talk her into just doing it in the office yesterday but she wanted to have me completely sedated. Fortunately, I was just given sedation rather than a general so at least my throat won't be sore for a few days this time.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any forums where people primarily discuss rectal abscesses?

I have had this abscess on and off for just over a year now and would like to see how others cope with them and see if anyone has ideas for improving one's chances for a cure.
