     What exactly is a pouch scope?  Do you have to take a prep like the one before the colonoscopy?  Do people with perm ileos have to go through anything like that? Geeezzzz I hope not!

well, I'm not Suebear, but I've had this done several times. It is like a colonoscopy except much shorter and not inserted very far, as the pouch can be reached pretty easily. My doctor has just had me go on clear liquids the night before, but no other prep. He uses a smaller scope, too, but he will still give me Versed because I ask for it. It's not needed, though.

A pouch scope is like a sigmoidoscopy but not as intense. It's done for the purpose of cancer screening. Those that opt for a permanent ileo don't have regular scopes as all rectal tissue is removed and the anus is sewn shut. Whether you opt for a jpouch or an ileo, you will never have to prep again! However, when I had my ileo I did have to get it fingered for a possible obstruction and if I had the choice over a fingering or a scope, I would take the scope! Fingering was not comfortable.

You are not assured of being away from awful procedures, even with surgery, but they aren't as time consuming as when you have a colon.

      Thank you...oh darn it all.  I thought I would be done with those procedures. I knew I would have to go in for checkups and all...but fingering?  EW!  LOL!  Oh well, better than living like this....glued to my house this morning.
