this blows. my doc won't prescribe Rowasa

My doc won't prescribe Rowasa because she hadn't prescribed it before, I need to come in and see her. I'm on Apriso but it's not getting the rectum, but my doc will prescribe Canasa.

What's up with that?

Sorry to hear that.... It does not make sense to me. Will she prescribe if you come in and see her? Maybe you can bring some article(s) about it that will convince her. It seems crazy that she has never prescribed it before. I use the generic kind as it is a much cheaper co-pay. I would keep pushing for it.

So she'll prescribe it if you come in for an office visit? If so, I don't think that's too unreasonable, considering it's a new medication for you and all.

I know but when I go to see her she'll say I need a colonoscopy, which I had two years ago :(

This seems to be a protocol for docs, mine does the same thing. I have to come in if the meds have not been prescribed before. Probably due diligence so they can say they saw you and you were fine if anything happens. The cynical part of me says it gets them paid for an office visit but they really make their $$ on colonoscopies.

You don't have to agree to a colonoscopy, I didn't and it's been over 3.5 years since my last, because I have heard/read of many people who were fine until they did the prep and started to flare or stated to bleed after the scope. Frankly the last prep I did was absolute hell and as long as no new symptoms cause me to worry about what's going on inside I am NOT gonna have one. I would find another GI if push came to shove.

I am in remission and want nothing rocking that boat.

docs are so full of it sometimes...i mean come on, they will prescribe canasa but not rowasa. you are already on oral mesalamine, it won't hurt using rectal mesalamine....my doc switched me from sulfasalizine to asacol over the phone and i haven't seen him in a year. the doc might just want some extra business
