So I've been having some crazy symptoms lately: SUPER sensitive teeth, I missed my period for the first time ever, I've been waking up with headaches & my legs & feet are so achy & sometimes painful when I first stand up to walk. I thought this was all due to the increasing amounts of my 6MP, but aparently, it's pretty run-of-the-mill prednisone withdrawl.

 

Has anyone else had these symptoms? How long do they last?

I myself am tapering off pred. Im finally down to 15mg. Honestly i have been lucky so far with the taper, no real issues, but i do get headaches the day after i make the next step lower dose. All of your symptoms do sound like the typical ones. I assume the time they last depends on the person. sry for not giving a good answer :)

I have had all of these symptoms because of pred. Now for me, my periods stop altogether when I am on the full dose, then they come back when I have tapered about halfway. (I got mine back when I hit 20mg)

My teeth are sensitive, but it is easing up a bit now. And the last time I tapered, I had TERRIBLE joint pain and achiness. It was BRUTAL. And it lasted past the time I was off of the pred by a couple of months. So far this time, it has not been bad AT ALL. I am not sure what the difference is exactly, but I am taking some supplements this time that i wasn't last time-like extra calcium, tons of vitamin D and C and such. I am not sure if those things are what has made the difference this time (I am also going to acupuncture weekly now and she is focusing completely on adrenal issues and trying to help me get off of the pred without problems), but so far so good.

I'm tapering pred, too. But this is my first time on it so I can't tell you when the symptoms go away.

For the leg and foot pain I find that potassium really helps. It helps with muscle pains and helps even out the water retention. Yogurt and banana for breakfast plus a couple of 99mg potassium tablets during the day seems to do the trick for me. I'm still eating mostly low residue, though, so your potassium intake might be fine if you're eating more normally.

I really got the sensitive teeth from pred. I've been off pred for several months and my teeth are still sensitive. I've posted about this before. It may take over a year to get back to normal. I've been brushing with Sensodyne and it seems to be helping.

Only my second time having to go on Pred for a flare, but YES!!!!  on the sensitive teeth.   I never read about that as one of the (many many many) side effects of Pred, but about 6 weeks into my treatment I pretty suddenly noticed sensitivity in all of my teeth, mostly to cold.  So bizarre.   Also headaches and general 'weird feeling' each time I step down.

As an aside, regarding side effects of Pred since everyone is different:  I am very petite to begin with, but have been on Pred (starting at 40 mgs) since early March and have not gained any weight.  I have a bit of chipmunk cheek syndrome and a bit of a pooched out belly just under the belly button, but otherwise have been super lucky.  Just a ray of light out there for people who are distressed about starting Pred regimine....it truly is different for everyone.

I get the cramps and sensitive teeth...been off it for about a month and it seems to be ok now (still crampy/sore but that's mostly cause i lift boxes all day at my job).

Last time I tapered I tried Licorice Root Tea, a cup a day. It is suppose to be good for improving adrenal function. I read about it from someone on this forum. But there are some contraindications: blood thinners, high blood pressure.. It is best to google and research it first (Licorice Root and Adrenal Fatigue). I just bought one box of 28 bags and drank a cup a day until it was gone. You are not suppose to do it long term. It seemed to help with the joint pain I typically get, along with the extreme fatigue. I don't remember having painful teeth.
