LONG TRIP DOCTOR VISIT HELP - Anyone use Diphen/Atropine?

Can't make it to the specialist on Monday because it is a 3 hour trip and can't hold it. My doctor ordered diphen/atropine for me so I can make the trip. Is this strong stuff. Hope it will keep me good for the day. Anyone try this? Paticus

If that's the only option for you to use on that occasion...I'd use it. Although, I'd probably sleep through the whole thing..lol.

Took one pill but didn't stop me just helped a little.  In 8 hours I'll take a second pill and see if the two make a difference. If not I'll have to cancel Mondays trip until I get stable.

I wouldn't cancel the appointment, because it sounds like you really need to be seen. You might get even more sick while waiting to get stable. Buy some adult diapers and take a couple of extra changes of clothes, and just go. If you poop in the diaper, well, that's what it's there for.

That's the generic for Lomitil. Diphenoxylate atropine. I have taken 2 at a time if needed. Flying to Jamaica I took two, then 2 hours later took another one. You have to take it two hours prior to whatever you are doing. When your mouth starts to get a little dry and you notice a decrease in intestine noises you know you are okay to go. They make some people drowsy. They make me a little loopy for a bit. I used the stuff for about 10 years and recently just switched to immodium and take several of those if needed.

I agree with fruitgirl, you do need to do whatever it takes to be seen. It sounds like you've given up your freedom to this illness and you need to get back on track. I hope you can get there on Monday & find a treatment that helps you.

Gosh, what a spot you're in!
I think I would do it all: I'd take a full dose of the meds, and wear the diaper, and go see the doc. (And bring extras for the trip home.) As fruitgirl said, what if you put off the visit and got sicker?

My biggest problem is that my doctor gives me meds and nothing happens and we just continue. He only sees me once every 1 or 2 months. When something good happens like one day I forget to take my meds and I was fine for 6 hours without them, actually normal, he doen't think its anything. Than when the remicade works and starts to wears off he lets me wait the 3 remaining weeks and we are back to the beginning in bad shape.
This new specialist I have to go and see tomorrow is at 2:45pm but at 9:30am I go to my regular gastrologist doctor. If no paper work was sent to the specialist I not going. A 2 hour trip for starting at the beginning consultation is nuts. They keep doing nothing. I have to find some one good. Paticus

When I need paperwork/records I don't depend on it being forwarded, I go get it in person and carry it with me. The doctor will not look at it until the time he/she sees you. There have been too many times it was misplaced or not sent for me to trust "forwarding".

Plus you should keep a copy for yourself. Have them make copies of what you bring and you keep the ones you brought.

Very Good info. I will ask my doctor tomorrow morning for a copy to take and a copy for me. You are right than I can give it to doctor2 later tomorrow.

I am fasting today and will load up on ammonium before I leave tomorrow. Paticus

And what about rectal meds....I'd suggest mesalamine retention enemas to start. Have you tried them in the past?

What's the extent of your UC...throughout or limited?
