Death in the family :( Trying to be strong and not let UC creep in too much

Already flaring slightly...my nonno (grandfather) who I am very close with died yesterday...missing him so much already and my heart is breaking for my grandmother and my mom and her siblings..was a pretty rough night..

Trying to be strong as I dont want this flare to increase in severeity...so scared it will though..already on 8 pentasa a day, salofalk enemas and suppositories daily, 2 packets of vsl..any other suggestions on how to keep myself protected...??

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy losing someone we love. When my Gma died last December I was devastated and I did end up flaring due to the stress of it all. It seems you are already doing what you can to keep this flare tame but in the event you start to get worse, call up your doc to see if they can offer more for you.

I'm so sorry. Hopefully this won't affect your UC at all and you'll continually get better. You and your family will be in my prayers.

Oh I know :( I still miss my Gma so very much to this very day even though it's already been 6 months. The pain of the loss will get better but the love we have for them will always remain in our hearts.

Oh Krissy, I am so sorry, the loss of a loved one is such a difficult time and it's definitely hard to recover from, be sure to take extra good care of yourself for a long time as you try to heal from you loss....thoughts and condolences to you (((HUGS)))

take some extra time for yourself right now, get alot of extra rest. I believe in the healing power of sleep, when you are resting it calms inflammataion.  Take warm baths, relax, do some things that you know will relax you. low residue antiinflammatory diet.

Oh Krissy, it's heartbreaking to hear your grandfather has died. Had he been sick for a while?

The deep emotional impact will affect you regardless, but you are already doing what you need in order to maintain as best you can. The rest of the process takes a while....and eventually the pain won't be as much, but missing him might remain. That's normal I think, for some have that reservation in our hearts forever.

My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Krissy - I am so sorry! Death is like a shock to our systems, physically. The best thing you can do is remember to take care of yourself as best you can. Remember to eat, sleep, take your meds... and be gentle to yourself.

Sorry to hear of your loss...I lost my grandma 5 years ago and i still miss her dearly. Take care of yourself ...make sure you get lots of rest to help keep your UC at bay.

Krissy, I am so sorry for your loss. It is devastating to lose a grandparent you are close to. You and your family will be in my prayers.

I don't have advice other than I agree with I love coffee-sleep is so important, and taking as much time as you can to relax. It might to too difficult right now, but maybe taking some time to sit with your family and talk about all of your wonderful memories with your grandfather would give you some sense of peace.

It's really hard to give what I think is an absolute right answer to this.

Death can be a very stressful event, especially when it's someone close to you. The only thing I can think of is to keep busy to keep your mind off of it. Obviously you're not going to stop thinking about it, but the less attention/dwelling, the less effect it can have on your UC.

My condolences to you Krissy. Losing a loved one is never easy. Then again, us UC'ers aren't really used to things being easy now are we. Hope you're making it okay.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I did not post about this because it was very hard for me but last month my grandma passed. She was my last remaining grandparent and the one I was closest too. She lived with my parents. It was somewhat sudden however she was 89 years old.

I tried to think about her life, how long she was able to live healthily, how many children, grandchildren, and now even a great grandson she had. This is what I did to try to keep my UC calm. I did feel anxious A LOT the week she passed and leading to the funeral. I remember that I woke up the night before to use the toilet (which I never do). I think it was due to nerves...I was so scared of my UC flaring even worse. I think the best thing for you is to think of the good times your grandfather had and to know he is at rest.

He did lead a long life.

Thank you to everyone who responded...we buried my nonno over the weekend and my flare has gotten a little worse since then..to say I am stressed is an understatement I think...
please pray for me , my nonno and my family...
