Hey guys, I just got my wisdom teeth removed and I was prescribed some antibiotics. I'm not sure if the ones that I was prescribed would go well with my uc. He prescribed Keflex. Did anyone take these before? If so how did you feel? Thanks a lot!

You could try asking your dentist for an antibiotic mouthwash rather than tablets, this may work better for your UC. Hope this helps.

Hm, thing is that I got my Wisdom teeth removed. Four of them that were impacted. So it was a pretty large surgery.

I had mine removed in my late thirties and i had antibiotic mouthwash rather than take the risk of flaring with tablets. The choice is yours but why take tabs when the liquid gets to the source quicker it's up to you.

olive leaf extract is a powerful "natural" herbal anti-microbial. Maybe that along with the antibiotic mouthwash. If it was me, I would stay away from antibiotics, if at all possible.

I have never had a problem with keflex and I do with other antibiotics. Every body is different but I would say try it and call your gi if you need to. Deeply impacted wisdom teeth removal is painful afterwards. You have my deepest sympathy. I hope you have someone to help you. My son had it done last summer. The teeth were huge! I made him a lot of protein smoothies until the pain was gone. The pain was gone after about
36 hours. Use the ice packs. If you don't have any, bags of petite peas are a great substitute. Best wishes,
Cynthia

Thanks for the support guys! yeah it sure does stink! I can't even really
open my mouth. Gahhh I called my GI but he wasn't there. One of the nurses said that it shouldn't bother me though. I don't know : ( I just got into remission and I don't want to risk it!!

Be sure to take probiotics if you are not already doing so.

I had a terrible flare last year after antibiotics; I know that the next time I'm prescribed abx I will be calling my GE to make sure I'm doing everything I can to try and offset the results, whether it be probiotics, upping my meds, or something else.

Yeah, I'm def waiting to hear back from him in the morning. Hopefully he calls. Otherwise I'm going to shoot him another call. What I'm going to do while on the antibiotics is take my enemas and up my probiotics just a little bit.

Interesting. I wasn't prescribed antibiotics when I had my wisdom teeth out, and my teeth have very long roots, or so I've been told. Does your dentist know you have UC and that antibiotics can trigger a flare? Do you really need to be taking antibiotics? Are your gums infected? Or did your dentist prescribe antibiotics just in case your gums get infected?
The reason I ask is that the risk of getting an infection is not nearly as bad as the risk of getting another flare.

He prescribed it as a precautionary. I'm going to talk to him about
getting maybe just a mouthwash with antibiotics. I really don't want to risk another flare.

Well my GI called this morning and he told me that taking the Keflex should not bother me. He gave me a refill on the VSL though and told me to keep taking it.
