How long before this is an issue?

I am down to 15mg for the last 2 days, but I have essentially been on prednisone since November 09 (a brief 3 week break, then I had to start up again).  I am getting headaches, achy all over, and while my UC is holding steady, I'm concerned.  My doc wanted me to taper 20/10/0 but I told him no and want to go 20/15/10/5/0, and very slowly.  He wants me to be completely off in 2 weeks max.

Can anyone talk to me about weaning of prednisone when you've been on it for a long time?  Should I be having tests to check my adrenal function?  Or am I totally overreacting here?

We're all different; I find a slower taper to be easier than the kind your doc outlined.
When I was on pred for 2 years I didn't have an adrenal function test....
When my son was on for 4 months he went down by 5 mg at the end, as you suggested to your doc, every five days and it went perfectly.
I think it's an art, rather than a science. I hope it goes well for you!

Slow taper and patience. I get headaches, achey and sometimes an increase in symptoms after a taper. Doesn't last very long but it's something I expect. Just have to hold out till it passes.
