Sulfasalazine v. Asacol

How many people use sulfasalazine of Asacol? I tried to switch to Asacol, but I started getting all these bumps on my scalp. It also made my condition worse (blood), and I also noticed that the tablets were passing through complete, just as others have noted. Am I behind the times in using sulfasalazine?

Nope, not at all. If it works for you, stick with it. It's waaaaaay cheaper anyway. Just make sure you take a folate supplement with it.

Honestly I'd probably be on it but I'm allergic to sulfa antibiotics so I can't take it.

I started off with asacol, went to colazal, then to sulfasalazine and then back to asacol. Then after over 2 years of remission I went back to colazal. Sulfa did nothing for me but give me an allergic reaction.

Asacol worked for a short time then my body apparently became intolerant to it, so I tried Colazal, it made me bleed like crazy. Soon as I switched to Sulfa, then bleeding pretty much stopped, maybe 95% better. Sulfa seems to work ok for me. It has been used for 20+ years for this disease and Crohn's I believe.
