Hello,

about a 2 weeks a had a boiler on my lower abdomon. I ended up popping and it became a infected absess. I went to the doctors and gave me a anitbiotic and it threw me into a flare in less in 24 hours. I went back the next day and told her that I was stopping them, since it put me into a flare. She just applied a infection fighting dressing. It is not healing nicely and should be healed in a week. I was in to get my dressing changed yesterday and I told her I was having a flare still and asked if she could put me preidsone (since it has been 2 weeks and am not feeling better) she precribed 30mg for 6 weeks. This is my family doctor, not my UC specialist,as he is on vacation till the 21

I am getting a colonostopy done on july 7th. My mom thinks that I should not take the prednsone, before I get my scope, since she is afraid that it will clear up whatever is happening to have me causing my flare. I am sick of having this flare and want to take it.

Would my specialist still not be able to see how bad my colon is, even if I was taking the prednsone or should I leave it, so my doctor can see what is going on. I was dignosed in 2007.

Hi Noah - You ended up posting the same thing twice so I deleted the other one.
Your GI is back on the 21st of June - on Monday?
I guess if I were you I'd have to decide how bad I was feeling, whether to go ahead and take the pred now or wait to at least talk to him.
It's not like seeing your colon all flared will give your GI any particular clues about how to solve your UC, so I wouldn't let you upcoming scoping be the deciding factor - just my opinion.

     My GI doctor will not do a colonoscopy if I am on prednisone.  He said too great a risk for infection.  Now that is him...he always was super cautious.

I had horrible colitis 2 weeks ago where I was going to the toiletg 20+ times. I was put on new medication and pregnisolone 25mg one tablet a day.

I had a colonoscopy yesterday and there was no sign of colitis at all. I had to remind the doctor that the reason I had the colonoscopy was because I was so sick.

My doctor however had wanted to see the effects of the new medication and how well it was working for me so I guess this was successful. I don't know if your specialist needs to see what your bowel looks like while it's bad? Can you get another specialists oppinion?

I have gone on colazide 750mg (which is an alternative to the main stream medications, I am allergic to sulfer). Whether this will work for you or not I can't say, I was on no medication at all leading up to this flare up.

I also started on Intestamine. This was given to me over the counter from a natrapath that worked at a chemist. Apparently it has been around for 15 years. It's a powder that contains a lot of vitamins and things such as aloe vera which are all natural treatments for colitis. Usually you shouldn't mix drugs and natrapath medications however this one works to stengthen the lining of your bowel - so it actually compliments your medications allowing it to be obsorbed into your body better, You only need to take it while you're experiencing a flare up.

How much the natural medicine did vs the drugs I dont know, but I will try the natural one on its own at the first sign of my next flare up to test it. I am now perminantly on the colazide

I was slated to have a colonoscopy in early April, but was just starting to come out of my flare at that time (I was hospitalized in late February for it), and was on 40mg/pred at the time, and I canceled it. I did it more because prepping for a procedure can really aggravate things for me, and I was JUST starting to really feel better on the Remicade, but when I spoke to the CNP at the GI's office about rescheduling it, she adamantly agreed with me that it was best to wait until I was off of the pred before doing that. I think if it can wait, it is best to put it off.
