I recently took an Aleve that really hurt for at least two days. I later researched that this is not a good thing to take if you have UC.

Which over the counter medication is everyone okay with using? Ones that work? Ones that don't?

Hi, I think the only "safe" pain reliever is Tylenol. However let's see if others have more insight.

Right, tylenol is pretty much what I can take (I actually went into a huge bloody flare after taking ibuprofen for 3 days straight).... otherwise, a few prescription things: I do fine with Percoset and Tramadol (if I'm not driving....)

I too found out by accident that Naproxen (the active ingredient in Aleve) does a number on my stomach. I used to take prescription strength Naproxen for severe menstrual cramps, and the last time I had my period I got myself into a pretty significant bloody flare because of the naproxen. I couldn't figure out what the problem was until I talked to a friend who also has IBD.

Now I just take Tylenol., but only when i really need it. But for me it doesn't work as well as Aleve does for controlling pain. However I refust to take anything that may put me into another flare so aleve is out for me.

Im in a mild flare that i think was caused by Ibuprofen. I took a prescription dose 600mil. for some neck/back pain and i started to bleed. Funny thing was when i was in remission i took a few Advil's and i was fine..?
