Hey all, I'm a new member here, and in my intro thread I stated that I'm on Apriso.
I did a quick search of the forum and saw some other threads on Apriso.

I wanted to know how many of you are on or were on Apriso and how it worked for you. I was the first to try Apriso out of all the patients that my doctor has, and it really was a shot in the dark. My doctor and I believe that the time release ability of the capsules is what helps, unlike the other two medications that I was on prior. Has anybody on Apriso had a flare up and about how long were you on it before it happened.

I know this information won't solve much, but I thought it would be interesting to know.

I am on 8 a day. 4 in the morning, and 4 at night. It got me out of a monster flare. I hope to get down to the maintinence dose of 4 a day soon. So far, so good.

I've been on Apriso since April but I don't feel that its helped much. What's really helped me are the rowasa enemas, I think I'm almost in remission ( no blood for about 5 days).
Heidi I didn't know we can take up to 8 pills??

I'm on four a day, for some reason 8 sounds like quite a bit but I can understand the need.

I was on the enemas for quite some time, they do help quite a bit but they are a tad on the annoying side.

Missey, have you told your doctor your feelings towards the drug? If the no blood consists though, there isn't much need to switch the current medications, if blood comes back...then yes it might be a good idea.

Yes, 8 pills is a ton. 4 pills is for maintaining remission, 8 is for snuffing out a flare. I'm on Rowasa too and have had great luck. The Rowasa works quicker. Apriso takes time. I have pancolitis so my meds have to work for my entire colon. I am feeling great even thought I'm totally od-ing on mesalamine. haha.

Oh I forgot to add that if you go on Salix.com you can print a coupon for free copays. My copay for Apriso is $50 and I get it for free til Dec.

Luckily I have fantastic insurance! My co-pay for Apriso is $25, but at first they wanted to charge me in full, because my insurance company didn't believe that Apriso was the right medication and they said we could've tried something else. I lived off of samples for about two weeks until my doctor could convince my insurance company that Apriso was the drug I NEEDED to be on.

I take Apriso, only two per day. I don't understand why there are no guidelines about taking more than four pills per day (I haven't come across any, at least.) If four a day is for keeping you in remission surely there should be guidelines about using Apriso while flaring, which would obviously necessitate taking more than a maintineance dosage. And, eight pills is after all, only three grams per day and some folks take up to 6.4 grams of Asacol each day.

I did not appreciate my hair falling out so I stopped apriso, then I just stopped everything but Vitamin D3 injections.

I know, I've heard it's made several people on here have their hair fall out. I've been taking alot of biotin to try to avoid that.
The apriso coupon covers any copay amount even just $25. Free prescription, why not? I buy so many pills and supplements I thought it was cool.
My Dr. told me to take 8 pills so I did and it stopped my flare. Others on here take the max of mesalamine so I figure I'm ok for now. He is checking my blood every month to make sure my organs are ok and thats a little concerning, but I guess the standard.

WOW! Hair falling out, that is pretty extreme. I haven't noticed that at all with me, hopefully never happens. I like my long hair, lol. ;)

It was either the Apriso or the DHEA supplements, but I took DHEA long before beginning Apriso. Someone pointed out I had thick hair for 46, later at home I pulled with both hands and was shocked. It stopped in time but it appears the front that thinned is not going to bounce back. I have cut everything out, I'll have a VSL#3 once a week and the yeast probioitic once in a while but for now I am just going to eat whole food and continue the Vitamin D3 injections which are not cheap but I believe in them.
