No offense intended but if you think you can prevent your child from getting UC or if you can not handle the thought of them developing it or something else then you might want to think seriously about what having children means. Children are not an accessory. What are you going to do if they do develop it? If you feel you can't handle it then you'll be in a lot of trouble if they do, because there is an increased risk (small but significant). That's no reason in my opinion not to have children though others will disagree. I know many people with very serious medical problems who are living good lives and not one has ever said they wished they'd never been born!
I say this because my child has pancolitis and it is a nightmare. Having said that, and I do have my moments, I am calming down and I believe this is something that will help me become a better mother. It has certainly made be grow up (I'm 34 but unfortunately like many people I know of my age was relatively immature emotionally). I never wish I'd never had my daughter. I do believe that I can heal her and regardless that she will have a good life.
BTW, my daughter has always had an excellent diet, raised on organic fruit, veg, (veggie from birth), only organic dairy, slept on organic mattresses from birth, used organic bathcare products, etc etc. You can not prevent what's going to happen (btw, neither my husband or I have IBD. My brother has very mild UC).
Good luck!
