How often should uc sufferers be having colonoscopy;

I have had uc for last 7 years, and have had one full

colonoscopy during that time.



Also, is it a prerequiste that a flare up should be under

control before you can have colonoscopy.

You should have one at least every three years.
I was in a flare during my first c-scope. It's not a prerequisite to have it under full control, but it might be somewhat easier if it's at least not crazy out of control where it's easier for the patient.

Other c-scopes, I have had some mild rectal inflammation, some from a mild flare, others possibly from the clean-out...but never in a full flare.

My doc takes 30 - 36 biopsies.

I went 7 years before my second one too, I think becuase I was in complete remission during that time. However, I do think I should have had onw earlier. I just had my second one in May and was mildly flaring. My first one too I was mildly flaring.

I had my initial one at diagnosis, another one about 7 years or so later (my memory is not really good about this) and now that I am past the 10 year mark I go every 2 years. But I have had sigmoidoscopies every year in between.

I had 2 colonoscopies in 2007, since then I have had sigs. My first colonoscopy I was too inflamed for him to complete it. So, when I was healthier he had another one done. My GI after him said I'd be fine for 10 years since I've been in remission.
